The Book

Coming to a Bookstore Near You… Soon.  ”I Went to School That Long for This?!”

Try counting the number of people you know who are struggling with their career choice.  In the United States, it’s 56% of workers.

Within our realm of control there is almost no other choice in life that will have more impact on people’s level of wealth, happiness, and fulfillment than the career path they choose.  Yet, the majority of people are getting it wrong.   They’ve followed the age old advice to go to school, graduate and get a good job, but the advice sucks.  What happens if they don’t like the good job they get because it’s aiming in the wrong direction?  What then?  Most of them resign themselves at work to simply going through the motions, a reality that 72% of Americans share.   The problem starts with graduates entering the workforce not knowing what to expect and without the correct preparation.   What’s needed is the right advice, at the right time, coming from the right person.   Young graduates have seen the writing on the wall for the countless workers who struggle with work, and they are desperately seeking a new solution.

I Went to School That Long for This?! Rewiring the Transition From School to Work, will be the first book to tell students and young graduates the modern day advice needed to effectively enter into work, gain career clarity, and create a customized plan for success.

Entering the work world in a dream job with the Edmonton Oilers that culminated in a Cinderella Stanley Cup Playoff run, Tyler shook his head while voluntarily walking away after only two years on the job. Why leave? He simply knew it was not the right career path for him (something the 1700 people who applied to replace him were thankful for). Instead, he began a quest to answer the question plaguing him: “Why do so many people struggle in their transition from school to work?”

Fast forward a handful of years. Mix together interviews with fortune 500 CEOs, students and workers in diverse fields, success as a university football coach, a Masters degree in Leadership, and work in countries like India, Belize, Qatar and China, and you have the body of knowledge which has Tyler rewiring the transition from school to work and mobilizing the next generation of workers.

Now from his home in Shanghai, where he runs a successful company, at age 31, Tyler is living the story he describes in I Went to School That Long for This?! Early Career Success and Actually Liking Work.
